Play-Based Learning

All of our children across our whole school access a play-based learning approach. This approach is threaded throughout the day, with explicit teaching of core skills timetabled in. Children then practice these skills within their carefully designed classroom provision (which we call 'Discovery Time'), through high-quality interactions with adults and independent play with their peers.

During ‘Discovery Time’, we provide opportunity for rich, purposeful play that fosters autonomy and competence through exploration, creativity and problem solving. Children access continuous provision alongside a range of both responsive and strategically planned enhancements. Child-initiated learning through play is valued, with staff capturing moments where children lead their own exploration. Children feel like their voice and ideas matter.
